ferdinand and the sanctuary

“Queer' not as being about who you're having sex with (that can be a dimension of it); but 'queer' as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and that has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live.” - bell hooks

“I think hard times are coming. We will need writers who can remember freedom. Poets, visionaries, the realists of a larger reality.” - Ursula K. Le Guin

A wish masked as a question emerges: What if we could create sanctuaries where our full complexity is honored? I guess I’m speaking to the one who feels caught between worlds—who cares deeply but doesn’t fit into many spaces. We honor different forms of radicalism, including the devotion of those who refuse to abandon their tenderness.
